Stonecrest Business Licenses Start With a Fire Inspection

A new Stonecrest business license needs a fire and life safety inspection scheduled with the DeKalb County Fire Marshal’s office, and the inspection document is uploaded with the license application. Fire plans inside the city limits go to the city first, which issues a routing sheet to the DeKalb Fire Marshal. In unincorporated Redan, plans go straight to DeKalb Planning and Sustainability. Schedule the inspection before you submit the license application.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Commercial plumbing, commercial electrical, commercial HVAC, commercial painting, commercial flooring, preventive maintenance, facility management, commercial roofing, fire sprinkler inspection, restaurant equipment repair, commercial cleaning, mold remediation, and commercial landscaping.

DeKalb County’s Fire Marshal fee schedule, updated June 8, 2026, charges $100 for an initial automatic sprinkler plan review on a building under 12,000 square feet and $150 over 12,000, and $100 for an initial hood suppression plan review. Construction permit inspections at 50, 80, and 100 percent cost $100 with no deficiencies, then $50 for the first re-inspection and $100 for the second and each after.

DeKalb County’s Commercial FOG Program requires participation by food service establishments, and its inspectors routinely inspect their grease interceptors. Stonecrest kitchens fall under the county program rather than a city one. Keep your interceptor maintenance records current so a routine inspection finds nothing to question.

The city’s own building staff inspect commercial work built or remodeled in the city, and the city lists building, roof, and trade permit types. Its Building Department lists the 2018 International Fire Code, International Plumbing Code, and International Mechanical Code, and the 2020 National Electrical Code. DeKalb’s fire page lists 2022 NFPA 13 and NFPA 72. Check each edition against your plans.

On January 3, 2023, the National Weather Service rated a tornado in the Spring Lake neighborhood off Evans Mill Road in Stonecrest EF0, with estimated peak winds of 85 mph, a 0.25-mile path, and a width of 100 yards. It downed dozens of trees onto several homes. The International Code Council describes EF0 damage as peeling the surface off some roofs and damaging gutters or siding.

Call or send a message with the building and the work you have in mind. That is all it takes to get started.
