One point of contact handles your request, whether you manage a single building or a portfolio of locations.

In the Area
Inside the city limits, Decatur Fire Rescue serves buildings from its own stations. Druid Hills, North Druid Hills, and Gresham Park are unincorporated DeKalb, so DeKalb County Fire Rescue’s Fire Marshal’s Office inspects existing commercial buildings there and reviews sprinkler and alarm plans, which average 10 business days. Confirm which side of the line your address is on before you schedule any life-safety work.

A restaurant or other food-service kitchen inside the city limits must get a routing sheet from the city before DeKalb Watershed will review its grease-trap permit. The permit does not carry over from a previous owner or a new business name. Start the routing sheet before you take over a kitchen.
DeKalb County Watershed Management, not the city, supplies water to buildings here. A county main break in Scottdale on February 2, 2024 left city hall and the city’s schools closed for low or no water pressure. Know which utility serves your building before pressure drops.
NOAA treats hail of 1 inch or more as severe, large enough to tear siding and break windows when wind-driven. Hail 1.75 inches across fell at Decatur on March 15, 2008, more than ten years ago, and quarter-size hail was reported near Gresham Park on April 24, 2021. After a storm, look at the roof edge, rooftop units, and exterior walls from the ground.
An EF-0 tornado with 70 mph peak winds crossed I-285 near North Decatur Road on May 4, 2017, breaking large branches and uprooting trees along a 1.1-mile path. NOAA counts winds over 50 to 60 mph as damaging. Look for limbs on roofs, loose rooftop equipment, and clogged gutters after any high-wind day.
Call or send a message with the building and the work you have in mind. That is all it takes to get started.
