What East Point’s Fire Inspector Checks for Occupancy

Before East Point issues a commercial certificate of occupancy, its Fire Inspector looks for paperwork showing the sprinkler system was inspected and tagged within the year and the fire alarm was inspected within the year. Commercial kitchens also need a K-class extinguisher and a hood system serviced by a certified company. The same inspection looks for a 3-foot clear space at the sprinkler riser and electrical panel. Collect those records before you book the inspection.

Questions

Frequently Asked Questions

Commercial plumbing, commercial electrical, commercial HVAC, commercial painting, commercial flooring, preventive maintenance, facility management, commercial roofing, fire sprinkler inspection, restaurant equipment repair, commercial cleaning, mold remediation, and commercial landscaping.

The city charges $200 for grease-system plan review, $200 for a new-construction permit, $150 for the installation inspection, and $50 per reinspection. Every grease generator also pays an annual discharge permit, $200 for exterior traps or oil separators with 1 to 5 tanks and $75 for interior traps. It is due March 31, with a 25 percent penalty after that date.

The city runs its own water utility, and every backflow assembly, whether domestic, fire-line, combination, or irrigation, must be tested at installation, after any repair, and every year. The annual report goes to the city’s Water and Sewer Department and must carry the tester’s certification number and the test kit’s calibration date. Check both on the form before you accept it.

East Point Power, the city’s own electric utility, requires a permit, an inspection, or both before it energizes new electrical services, service-line repairs, or temporary poles. Build that approval into your project calendar, because the power stays off until the utility signs off.

Hail of 1.75 inches was reported at East Point Street and Vesta Avenue on the night of March 26, 2023. IBHS advises hail guards for air conditioner condenser fins, air intakes, and other vulnerable components whose damage can impair the unit’s operation. Bent fins or blocked intakes can stop a unit working, so note the date of any hail report.

Call or send a message with the building and the work you have in mind. That is all it takes to get started.
